Queen’s Messenger Badge, V.R., large oval badge in silver-gilt, by Garrard, hallmarked London 1876, the central royal arms painted and glazed as usual, complete with pendant silver Greyhound, 139 x 51mm overall, the reverse inscribed ‘Foreign Office V.R. 1876 No. 3’, large ring for suspension, good very fine and rare £2000-2500

Sold with copied Foreign Office correspondence appointing Mr Edward Harry Liddell ‘into the place and quality of Messenger in Ordinary to Her Majesty, in attendance at the Secretary of State’s Office for Foreign Affairs’, dated 16 February 1876. Mr Liddell resigned on grounds of ill-health in April 1876.
