Niaz Gul first witnessed active service on the North-West Frontier in 1908, when present in operations in the Bazar Valley and Mohmand (Medal & clasp). His subsequent career in the Great War - during which he was wounded - embraced service in France (September 1914 to December 1915), for which he received his I.D.S.M. in April of the latter year; Iraq (January 1916 to May 1918), for which he was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 12 October 1917 refers); and Palestine (from May 1918). Latterly a Subadar Major and Native Adjutant, he retired in 1928.
