Ex Douglas-Morris collection, Part II, 12 February 1997 (Lot 78):
‘A rare and early occurrence of a civilian Dockyard Shipwright receiving a medal for his presence aboard a Royal Naval ship during a Fleet gunnery action. The Medal roll states that his Egypt Medal and Khedive’s Star were sent to the Superintendent of Malta Dockyard for presentation.’
John Frederick James was awarded his Imperial Service Medal for his services as Inspector of Shipwrights at H.M. Dockyard, Portsmouth (London Gazette 6 April 1915 refers).
