Henry William Sharp was born at Loughton, Essex in October 1885 and entered the Royal Navy as a Naval Schoolmaster in May 1910. He subsequently served at various shore establishments up until his advancement to Warrant Schoolmaster in November 1917, following which he is believed to have served at sea in the battleship H.M.S. Revenge. Discharged in 1922, he became a teacher, and later Headmaster, at Church Street School, Gravesend, and finally retired in 1945.
