Hubert Jones (note: ‘A’ Jones on medal) was born in Mohill, Co. Leitrim. A Grocer by occupation, he attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Belfast on 5 February 1900, aged 21 years. Posted to the 54th (Belfast) Company 13th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, he served in South Africa, 3 March 1900-7 June 1901. He was taken prisoner at Lindley, 31 May 1900. Jones was discharged at Belfast on 15 June 1901. His papers record that he was a ‘Good horsemaster - acted as Farrier and Shoeing Smith on Service.’ With copied service papers.
