London, Shepherds Bush: Franco-British Exhibition, 1908, a silver award medal by F. Bowcher for Vaughton, similar, named (Maj. Gen. Sir Ronald B. Lane, C.B.), edge hallmarked Birmingham 1909, 51mm (BHM 3960; E 1903b; Allen Pt 3; BDM VII, 106; cf. DNW 70C, 2372). Extremely fine, toned; in official maroon gilt-blocked case of issue by P. Vaughton & Sons, Birmingham (£60-80)

Major General Sir Ronald Bertram Lane, KCB, KCVO, Carleton Hall, Saxmundham, Suffolk, had considerable business interests in Canada and was chairman of the Southern Alberta Land Co; he was also a prime mover in setting up the Boy Scout movement in Canada in 1912. His son, Capt (Adjutant) George Roland Lane, 2nd Bn, Coldstream Guards, killed in action on 15 September 1916, aged 22, is commemorated on the Kelsale with Carlton war memorial, Suffolk, unveiled by Sir Ronald on 8 May 1921
