Arthur Stratton was born in Droxford, Hampshire and enlisted at Colchester, Essex. Prior to the Great War he served with Hampshire Regiment in Somaliland. He attested for the Army Reserve (Special Reserve) at Colchester on 10 September 1914 and four days later was advanced to Company Sergeant Major in the 12th Battalion Middlesex Regiment. As a C.S.M. in the Middlesex Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 25 July 1915. As R.S.M. (Warrant Officer Class 1) of the 12th Battalion, he was killed in action on 26 September 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. With copied Great War service papers.
