Thomas Reid attested for the Royal Lancaster Regiment and served with them as part of the 27th Mounted Infantry in South Africa during the Boer War. He subsequently served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 20 September 1914, and later served in the 6th Battalion.
