Bovy, Jean François Antoine (Swiss, 1795-1877); b. Geneva

FRANCE, Promulgation de la loi sur les chemins de fer [Promulgation of the Law on Railways], 1842, a copper medal by J.F.A. Bovy, laureate bust of Louis Philippe I left, rev. semi-naked female figure representing Law enthroned on plinth, flanked by Mercury and Mars, trains steaming to left and right in lower background, edge impressed cuivre and prow, 113mm, 610.52g (CGMP p.153; Moyaux 121; BDM I, 246; cf. Swan 253; cf. DNW 199, 1046). Small obverse edge knock at 6 o’clock and a few minor surface marks, otherwise extremely fine and patinated, a substantial and handsome work £240-£300
