NETHERLANDS, Delta Plan, 1958, a bronze medal by F.A. Carasso for the Vereniging voor Penningkunst, five male workmen at a dyke, rev. two swallows flying past a bare tree-trunk, rising sun behind, 60mm, 88.54g (VPK 1958-1; KB 2414; HS 259-61; cf. Schulman 371, 2702). Extremely fine £30-£40

The Delta Plan was conceived following the major North Sea flooding disaster in 1953. The IJssel storm barrier at Randstad, completed in 1958, was the first of a series of flood defences that were not finished until 1997.
