The official medal of the 1933 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago, it was struck in the exposition grounds by Crowe Name Plate and Manufacturing Co. The exposition opened on 27 May 1933 and closed on 12 November, then opened the following year between 26 May and 31 October – a 1934-dated version of this, one of three sizes of the same design, is occasionally seen. Over the two years the event attracted over 39 million paid visitors.
