A total of 6,000 medals, the majority in bronze, were struck and given to all Fry’s employees in 1928 to commemorate the firm’s bicentenary. Joseph Fry (1728-87) was a type-founder and chocolate maker from Bristol; the family firm, J.S. Fry & Sons, named after a son, Joseph Storrs Fry (1766-1835), was so titled in 1822 and merged with Cadbury’s in 1919.
