James V (1513-1542), Second coinage, Groat, Holyrood Abbey mint, type IIIb (i), bust right with mantle and corded chain, single-arched crown, eight jewels to band, strawberry-leaf decorations, no numeral after iacobvs, rev. shield with rounded base, cross-ends C, pelleted v in oppidv, no contraction after r of edinbvrgi, trefoil stops both sides, 2.72g/9h (SCBI 35, 931, same obv. die; SCBI 58, 60; SCBI 71, 373; B 10, fig. 713, same obv. die; S 5378). Very fine, the variety without numeral very rare £500-£600
