Greek Coinages, KINGDOM OF MACEDONIA, Alexander III: Tetradrachm, struck at Paphos, Cyprus, c. 322-1, under the auspices of Nikokles

Obverse: nικοκλεουσ [hidden within lion’s mane]: head of youthful Herakles right, wearing lion’s scalp headdress, paws tied below chin

Reverse: βασιλεωσ αλεχανδρου: Zeus seated left on ornate stool, holding eagle and plain sceptre; laurel-sprig under throne, monogram [αφπ] in field

Metal: silver; Attic weight standard; 17.18g/6h

Condition: Good very fine, attractively toned and very rare; the issue of considerable historical significance £600-£800
