Victoria (1837-1901), 1881h, dies Mp, end of outer tie-ribbon points outwards, rev. heraldically coloured shield, 9.36g/12h (Gouby –; F 103 [dies 9+M; Sale, lot 65]; Adams –; BMC –; S 3955). Obverse with some light scuffing, otherwise very fine and patinated, of the highest rarity, only five currency specimens believed known of which this may be the finest; the die combination not listed by Gouby (£500-700)

Of the other known specimens, the Freeman example was described as ‘poor’ and another piece, unfortunately lost in the mail while in transit between the UK and the USA in November last year, would grade fair to fine
