Douglas Bank Co, One Pound, 9 December 1811, no.312, signed by James Dove (Quarmby 219). Split on right side and rejoined with tape on back, edge tears and missing part of corner at bottom right, otherwise intact and good to very good, very rare (£300-400)

The Douglas Bank Co, the proprietors of which were William Scarlett Littler, Revd Robert Littler and James Dove, opened for business in Fort street, Douglas, on 29 November 1811, shortly afterwards removing to Duke street. Unfortunately the partnership, which also issued silver and copper tokens, was extremely short-lived because Robert Littler found himself in dispute with Dove, unsuccessfully challenged him for damages in the Chancery Court on 3 January 1812 and then fled the island
