John Bowstead, merchant and banker, Kirk Andreas; his card tokens, along with those of upwards of 50 other Manx issuers, were suppressed by the Act for the Suppression of Card Notes of 31 July 1817; this in turn followed the delivery of several consignments of new silver coin to the island in June and July 1817
