A Great War M.M. pair awarded to Lieutenant C. B. Diplock, 7th (1st British Columbia) Battalion, Canadian Infantry, late 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles, who was wounded on the Somme in July 1916

Cyril Bramah Diplock was born in Vancouver on 6 January 1896. A Draughtsman by occupation, he enlisted as a Private in the 62nd (British Columbia) Battalion on 6 December 1915 and was transferred to the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles in 1916. He was wounded in action on 24 July 1916 during the battle of the Somme - suffering gunshot wounds to the chest and right leg.
As a Corporal he was next appointed an Acting C.S.M. in Physical Education and Self Defence, but he returned to frontline service in 1918, serving with the 7th Battalion and won the M.M. for his bravery during the battle of Amiens. Diplock was commissioned in November 1918 and discharged at Vancouver in June 1919.
Sold with a quantity of original documents, including the recipient’s Certificate of Appointment as Acting Warrant Officer Class II, dated 10 May 1917; Physical Training Certificate; Bayonet Fighting and Physical Training Attendance Certificate, this damaged; Commission Warrant appointing him a Lieutenant, dated 5 November 1918; Canadian Expeditionary Force Certificate of Service; Fourth Army Congratulations Slip on the award of the M.M.; Fourth Army List of Awards - which includes the M.M. to Diplock; also with copied service papers.
