John Stephenson was born in Broughton-in-Furness, Cumberland, on 20 March 1882. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the 82nd Battalion at Calgary in October 1915, but was serving with the 102nd Battalion at the time of his death of wounds on 26 November 1916 - having suffered multiple shrapnel wounds to the left leg, left arm and head. He was buried in the St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen; sold with copied service papers and a fragmentary case of issue.
