William Stanley MacDonald enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in May 1942, as a Sick Berth Attendant Probationer. His training completed, he joined the corvette H.M.C.S. Chicoutimi in April 1943, and served on the Atlantic run until invalided ashore that September and discharged as medically unfit in the following month. His death in Victoria, B.C., in July 2002, was partly attributable to his wartime service and he was accordingly issued with an E.II.R. Memorial Cross; sold with copied service record.
