Walter G. Pockett was born on 28 June 1854, and spent his working life in India as a policeman. He was appointed to the Uncovenanted Civil Service on 16 November 1885, and in March 1886 he was appointed an Assistant District Superintendent, 2nd Grade, with the Burma Police Department at Kyauktan. In June 1886 he was at Pagan, moving to Pin as District Superintendent in June 1887. From Pin he went back to Pagan in January 1888, to Pakokku in August 1888, to Tavoy in September 1890, and to Mergui in March 1891.
Pocket was on furlough on medical certificate from August 1891 until January 1893, when he returned to Burma and his final posting at Kyaukpyu. His name is not shown in the Indian Arrmy List of 1895.
Sold with further research including an extract from Tales of Burma, compiled by Alister McCrae, which mentions Pockett during the Burma campaign.
