George Westcott was born in Sheerness, Isle of Sheppey on 12 May 1848. He entered the Royal Navy as a Blacksmith in October 1867, being appointed an Acting Engine Room Artificer in September 1874 and attaining the rank of C.E.R.A. in February 1885. He was awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1882 when on the wooden screw corvette/training ship Wolverene. Pensioned in October 1887. With copied service papers.
