Pair: Second Lieutenant C. Prophet, 20th Battalion London Regiment, killed in action, 9 October 1917

Cecil Prophet was born on 16 December 1885 at Millbrook, the son of William Wallace and Sarah Ann Prophet. Educated at University College School, 1900-03. Employed as an Assistant in the Comptrollers Department, London County Council, he attested for service with the 15th Battalion London Regiment on 17 May 1915. Posted to the 3rd/15th Battalion, he served in France, 27 October 1915-2 March 1916. Returning home, he was discharged to a commission in the 20th Battalion on 25 January 1917. He was killed in action when on attachment to the 2nd/5th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment on 9 October 1917 - employed at the time as Battalion Signalling Officer. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
