John Knight was born in Maidstone, Kent in February 1845 and entered the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman 2nd Class in June 1862. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in December 1877, he served as a Leading Stoker in the Penelope (May to October 1882) and was pensioned ashore in November 1887; sold with file of research, including copied service record.
