Thomas Evans was born in the Parish of Rozin Market, near Haverford West, Pembroke, and enlisted for the 1st Foot in London on 25 January 1802, aged twenty-seven. He joined from the Cambrian Rangers, in which regiment he had served since 2 May 1798. He served in the Royal Scots until 24 June 1817, including seven years in the West Indies from October 1805 until June 1812. The Royal Scots arrived in America in August 1812 and in the following year fought engagements at Sackett’s Harbour, Sodus, Fort Niagara, Lewiston and Black Rock. During 1814 they were engaged at Longwoods, Chippewa, Lundy’s Lane, Fort Erie and Cook’s Mills. Sold with copy discharge papers and various muster rolls.
