Joseph Hullett was born in the Parish of Gunnington, Nottingham, and enlisted for the 76th Foot at Nottingham on 28 July 1805, aged 16 years 4 months. He was discharged at Waterford on 28 November 1827, in consequence of ‘a very extensive ulcer of the inner part of the right leg with varicose veins of the limb incapacitating him from walking, which happened during the retreat of the Army of Sir John Moore to Corunna in January 1809.’ Sold with copy discharge papers, and pay list for the period June to September 1814 which records Joseph Hullett as serving with the regiment in America at the time of the battle of Plattsburg on 11 September 1814.
