Alexander Brook was born in about 1786 and enlisted into the 92nd Highlanders on 15 October 1807, being posted briefly to the 2nd Battalion before joining the 1st Battalion in Portugal in July 1808. He served with the 1st Battalion at Corunna in 1808-09 and in the Walcheren expedition in 1809, returning to the Peninsula in October 1810. He took part in the battle of Fuentes D’Onoro in May 1811, and is shown in the muster rolls for June/July 1811 as ‘Prisoner’ and in the following muster for July/August as being in ‘Regtl confinement’. In October 1811 he was present at Arroyo del Molinos when the Prince d’Arenberg was made prisoner by the 92nd, and in April 1812 he was present at the battle of Almaraz. After taking part in the great victory at Vittoria, Brock was wounded during the battles in the Pass of Maya, 25-31 July, and sent back to Vittoria to recover, thereby missing the actions of Nivelle and Nive. However, by February 1814 he was sufficiently recovered to take part in the battles of Arriverete, Orthes, Aire, and Toulouse. In July 1814 the battalion returned to Ireland and on 31st October Brock was discharged into civil life once again. He was subsequently admitted as an out patient of Chelsea Hospital with a pension of 6d per day, with effect from 8 April 1856, increased to 9d on 20 August 1861. Sold with full muster details.
