Leonard Nadin, a native of Sheffield, Yorkshire, enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in December 1915. Subsequently employed as a motor cyclist, he served out in France from July to December 1917, being evacuated home via No. 3 Australian General Hospital in the latter month. Admitted to No. 3 Western General Hospital at Newport in the New Year, he was placed on the R.A.F. Reserve that October, and was awarded the Silver War Badge.
