Harry Finch was born in Tottenham, London in March 1898 and enlisted in the Royal Naval Air Service as a Boy Mechanic in June 1915. Advanced to Air Mechanic 2nd Class in March 1916, he served as an Observer (Wireless Operator) in seaplanes at Malta from August of the same year until January 1919. Having been transferred to the Royal Air Force in April 1918, he was demobilised in November 1919.
