Kenneth Edwin Shardlow was appointed an Acting Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force Regiment (R.A.F.V.R.), in April 1944, direct from his previous employment as a Leading Aircraftman. Advanced to war substantive Flying Officer in October of the same year, he retained the same rank during his post-war career in the Royal Air Force Regiment (R.A.F.V.R.) and was placed on the Retired List in the rank of Flight Lieutenant - via the re-constituted Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment - in January 1957, having been awarded the Air Efficiency Award in the previous year.
