Lawrence William Marshall was commissioned into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve as a Pilot Officer, with the honorary rank of Flying Officer, in May 1939. After the War, in February 1947, he gained a commission in the Royal Air Force in the latter rank, in the Education Branch, and was advanced to Flight Lieutenant in February 1949 and served on the Air Staff, Malaya in the mid-1950s. Marshall was finally placed on the Retired List as a Wing Commander in March 1969.
