The horse racing track at Marsa, administered by the Malta Racing Club, is Malta’s top sports venue. Inaugurated with a 2-day meeting in April 1869, it was for many years Europe’s largest purpose-built racetrack. After a period of recuperation following the 1914-18 conflict, prospects were improved in the 1930s by the influx of British servicemen and a build-up of strings of expertly trained racehorses imported from North Africa. It is from this inter-War period that the earliest of these enamelled badges date
