Fred Francis was born in Crewe, Cheshire and enlisted in Manchester. He died of wounds in Egypt on 30 July 1915, whilst serving with 1st East Lancashire Field Company, Royal Engineers. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial Gallipoli.
