Military General Service 1793-1814, 8 clasps, Talavera, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Orthes, Toulouse (Z. Car[d]y, 95th Foot, Rifles) one letter of surname rather crudely filed out, otherwise good very fine and very rare £1200-1400

Only eleven clasps for Talavera to the 95th Foot. This medal was offered by Baldwin’s in October 1938, in box of issue with the last seven clasps only, and re-offered in January 1953 with eight clasps and a footnote that the roll indicates entitlement to Talavera clasp also. Both Foster’s and Mullens’ rolls confirm the Talavera clasp.

Zachariah Cardy was born at Bures, Suffolk, and enlisted into the 95th Foot at Colchester on 2 February 1807, aged 18 years. He was discharged at Drogheda on 17 June 1827, being worn out by length of service, having ‘served through the whole of the Peninsula from 1809 till 1814; was at Waterloo and in France, was wounded in the jaw at Waterloo.’
