Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (760001 C.Q.M. Sjt., 28/Lond. R.); Territorial Force Efficiency Medal, G.V.R. (5 Sjt., 29/Lond Regt.) very fine (2) £120-140

Startin transferred from 20th Middlesex (Artists) Volunteer Rifle Corps on formation of the Territorial Force in 1908, hence his early regimental number 5. He served overseas during the war with the 1/28th London Regiment (Artists’ Rifles), was mentioned in despatches and awarded the M.S.M., one of only 14 such awards to the Artists’ Rifles. On re-numbering, he became the ‘Senior’ Artist other rank with regimental number 760001. He is also entitled to the 1914 Star with clasp (Colour-Sergeant) and the British War and Victory Medals (W.O. Cl.2).
