George Herbert Oakshott was educated at Corpus Christi, Oxford, graduating with a B.A. in 1890, M.A. in 1894 and D.D. in 1909. He served as the Curate of New Brighton, 1892-95; Curate of Polesworth, Warwickshire, 1895-96; Curate of Hilgay, 1897-98, and Curate of Great Hallingbury, 1898-1901. Appointed Vicar of Stansted Mountfitchet, 1901-08. Served as a Temporary Chaplain in the Royal Navy, serving on H.M.S. Endymion and the R.N. Barracks, Chatham during 1915. Chaplain of Minley Military Hospital, 1917-18. The Rev. Dr Oakshott died on 10 February 1942.
