William Ashford was born in Pylle, Somerset, lived at Frome and enlisted at Salisbury, Wiltshire. Serving in the 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he was killed in action, France/Flanders on 11 December 1914, aged 33 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of Jane Ashford and husband of Florence A. Ashford, of 9 Bell Lane, Frome, Somerset.
