John Robert Charles Hall was appointed an Assistant Apothecary in the Bengal Subordinate Medical Department on 20 May 1859. He claimed his Mutiny medal on the roll of the Bengal Yeomanry Cavalry as Acting Assistant Apothecary. In 1866 he is shown as Officiating Steward in the 34th Foot, and in the following year as Officiating Apothecary in the 104th Foot. In the Bengal Army List for April 1878 he is listed as Apothecary 1st Class from 5 June 1868, and in the remarks column: ‘Leave, Medical Certificate to Calcutta for 6 months.’ He is listed in the Bengal Army List for July 1884 as an Apothecary on the Pension Establishment (Presidency) from 8 August 1879.
