Samuel Fox joined the Army in May, 1801, at the age of 15 years. He served with the 30th Regiment in the Peninsula in April and May 1809, and from April 1810 to December 1811, and was present in the operations at Tarifa, Cadiz, Sabugal, the battle of Fuentes D’Onor, and action of Barba del Puerco. He was placed on the Unattached List as a Major in 1826 and made Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in January, 1837. Sold with a copy of his Statement of Service, dated 1854, in which he writes as to his fitness and readiness for active service “Ready - but with such fitness as a man of 67 years may possess”.
