Richard Ford was born at Walthamstow, Essex, in August 1898, and entered the Royal Naval Air Service as a Boy Mechanic (W./T.) in June 1915. Remaining employed as a Wireless Operator / Observer for the duration of hostilities, he was awarded his A.F.M. in respect of his services at Cherbourg, in addition to gaining a mention in despatches (London Gazette 7 June 1918, refers). Transferred to the Reserve in September 1920, he was finally discharged in August 1924; sold with copied service record which confirms his entitlement to the Victory Medal 1914-19.
