Mr Manville’s principal series of Maundy money was sold as part of his collection of English milled silver coins (Spink Auction 9, 4 June 1980). The 23 lots in this section comprise remnants from his collection, including mis-strikes and brockages, many acquired since 1980. Mr Manville collaborated closely with Brian Robinson, author of the standard reference Silver Pennies and Linen Towels (London, 1992), and many of the variants noted therein were described from the following pieces.
