Exeter mint, Penny, 1644, mm. rose, rev. large rose, no stop after date, 0.87g/6h (Besly A1 var.; RCL 2; cf. SCBI Brooker 1075; N 2583; S 3091). Nearly very fine but perforated through centre; possibly the only known specimen £400-500

Besly A1 has a clear stop between the date and the mintmark. Although listed by Lockett (BNJ 1936-7, p.246), Besly felt that the existence of this variety was doubtful (BNJ 1992, p.118)
