This battery was especially commended by Sir Bindon Blood for getting its guns forward over very difficult terrain during the march to relieve Malakand Fort in 1897. Lewis was attached to 12 Battery, R.F.A., during the Boxer rebellion and received the China medal with clasp Relief of Pekin.
