This man enlisted, under the assumed name of William Cockroft, into the Cameron Highlanders in July 1880, and served with them at Tel-El-Kebir. On discharge in July 1887, he immediately re-enlisted in the Royal Artillery in his real name, William George, confessing to his previous deception in 1895. Only one battery earned the clasp for Sikkim 1888.
