Bugler Hearley and Colour-Sergant Clarke rescued Private Oliver who was wounded at Talana and subsequently died from his wounds. See Lot 18 for Oliver’s medal and further details of the incident. Hearley enlisted for the 8th London Regiment in September 1914, being appointed Bugler, but did not serve overseas.
