Thomas Henry Notley, along with one other soldier were the first men to be awarded the M.M. in the 17th Battalion, K.R.R.C., both being awarded for the action at Beaumont Hamel on 3 September 1916. He was born and enlisted at Battersea, Surrey, and died of wounds in France and Flanders on 20 April 1918.
