Frank Thomas Spittle lived in Leyton and enlisted in London. He was killed in action on 23 February 1915 when working in front of the parapet under cover of mist, the mist suddenly lifted and some Germans opened fire on the party. Rifleman Spittle was hit and Sergeant Pulleyn who was making his way back to the safety of the trench stopped to bandage him, staying with him for 10 minutes until he died.
