Job Collins was born in the Parish of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, and enlisted for the 90th Light Infantry on 11 December 1843, at Queen’s Square, London. During his career he was many times court martialled and sentenced to imprisonment and lashes. He served in the Crimea and the Indian Mutiny where he was injured in the left leg, causing him to be discharged as medically unfit in July 1858.
