Alexander John Norster was born in South Queensferry, near Edinburgh, on 15 July 1919, and enlisted at Stirling in July 1937. He was on the last Ammunition Examiners Course prior to the war and served with the B.E.F. in France as an Ammunition Examiner in 1939 and 1940. Posted to India early in 1941, he served there until November 1944, when he returned to the U.K. before being posted to Norway with No. 9 Disarmament Team in July 1945, remaining there until that unit was disbanded in February 1947. He served subsequently in Malaya and Hong Kong, was awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal in 1955, and retired in 1958. Sold with further research including a photograph of the recipient and copies of the recommendation for his M.B.E.
