George Cunningham Allport was born at Aston, near Birmingham, and enlisted into the Corps of Armourers in May 1888, a Gunsmith by trade. He served in the Nile Expedition in 1898, posted for duty with the Rifle Brigade, and was present at the battle of Khartoum; served in the occupation of Crete in 1898; and in South Africa 1899-1902, including the Defence of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek and Belfast. He was awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal with gratuity in 1906, and was discharged in May 1909. Sold with copy service papers.
